The first time I ever flew was from one side of the World to the other from the UK to Australia-I came over on a working holiday and never left. Landing in Perth and travelling across Australia on a Greyhound bus, I still remember how amazed I was at the heat and the size of the place….
For the 15 years prior to starting a traineeship at Gumnut Gardens I had worked in banking and finance. I have qualifications in Frontline Management and in Mortgage Broking & Finance. While my children were little, and before the desk jobs, I worked as a cook in an any early learning centre. My experience in early learning informed my recent career change and I can only say that my new role is more fulfilling, energetic and creative than my previous career.
I believe Early Childhood Education is an important part of a child’s upbringing. It introduces the child to another layer of community and assists them develop a sense of belonging in their world. That children do most of the learning in the first two years’ of life is often overlooked. The more children’s interest in learning can be fostered from an early age the more predisposed children will become to learn lifelong.
I bring a broad and positive outlook to my role at Gumnut Gardens; a love of people and my experience as a mother and relationship builder I look forward to learning so much more from the children, their parents and my colleagues. When I’m not working I like to spend time with family and friends, go for long walks with our dog, cook and read the paper on our back veranda.
