I have worked in the Early Childhood sector for many years and in long day programs for the past twenty-one years. I teach at Western Sydney University (WSU) and am very fortunate to have this opportunity: it supports a natural reciprocity and exchange of information from the academic to the practice at a centre level.
Having worked as the Director of Gumnut Gardens for 18 months I have decided to return to working as an academic at (WSU) but continue as a consultant to Gumnut Gardens to support teacher accreditation and provide ongoing pedagogical support and education.
I graduated from a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership in 2015. Hence, I teach in the areas of pedagogy, leadership and professional experience. I see my University work as my ongoing professional development. My tertiary teaching reflects my interest in children’s learning. I have researched, written and presented on organisational culture, described as: what we do ‘round here. I am intrigued and curious to learn about the influence of leadership on organisational culture. In effect, by moving to Gumnut Gardens I have presented myself with an action research project.
In my previous employment, I managed a 55 place long day program and worked with a team of 18 staff. Gumnut Gardens has an exciting and current early years learning program.
A brief overview of my work history:
- Director in Pre-schools with KU Children’s Services – 15 years.
- UTS Child Care Magic Pudding (59 places) – 12 years.
- Kurralee child care Homebush (55 places) – 9 years.
- Previous position. Academic WSU. – 1 year Jenny Green.
I enjoy going to the movies and a range of cultural and social activities. I enjoy walking and swimming particularly in the surf if only to balance the sedentary activities of my working week.
