Lucia Stacchiotti

Early Childhood Teacher

Room Leader Boori Room (the Toddlers)

I am from Italy and I arrived in Sydney in August 2016. I am a teacher and a clinical pedagogue and I have been working as a teacher for 13 years. After achieving a BA in Early Childhood Education, I obtained a Master’s Degree in Didactic Procedures for Early Childhood Education, a Master’s degree in Disability Studies and Early Childhood Special Education and a BA degree in Pedagogy and Human Sciences and a Master’s Degree in Clinical Pedagogy; I am an approved ECT teacher in Australia.

I am a creative, curious and dynamic person. I am highly motivated with a strong passion for my job.

I firmly believe in a child-centred teaching approach and in the role of the teacher as a professional figure who offers children the possibility of exploring, experiencing, creating, discovering their own talents and helping them make the most of their potential. As Loris Malaguzzi (Reggio Children) said, ‘When a child asks “Why is there a moon?” Don’t reply with a scientific answer. Ask him “What do you think?” He will understand that you are telling him “You have your own mind and your own interpretation and your ideas are important to me.” Then you and he can look for the answers, sharing the wonder, curiosity, everything. It is not the answers that are important; it is the process of you and him searching together.’

I love following their interests and supporting them by creating experiences that are engaging for them. My philosophy to encourage their curiosity and respect their needs, interest and give them the opportunity to express and develop their personality, expand their knowledge and cultivate their dreams with happiness and wonder; my aspiration is to walk with the children and my colleagues in this experiential and educational trip where cognition and imagination are traveling together and where the child is valued for their uniqueness.

During my time at Gumnut Gardens, I wish to inspire and to be inspired by children and by people and to create all together wonderful and new learning opportunities and possibilities. I would like to give my best contribution with all my dedication and passion about my job and enrich my soul and my professional background.

My parents have always encouraged me to follow my dreams, to be curious, to discover new worlds. I have always been very active and during my leisure time, I love rock climbing, hiking, listening and playing music, doing yoga, swimming, travelling, reading, discovering new worlds, organizing nice dinners with friends, learning new things.
