The treehouse frames our ancient leafy backyard tree and provides another perspective and play space for the children high above the gardens with access via a ladder. Climbing up and down (backwards) fosters coordination, balance and safe-risk taking opportunities. Once the children have climbed to the top they are rewarded with a leafy shady place in summer when it loses its leaves in winter the sun glistens through the dramatic shapes and shadows of the branches. It is a space which only their imaginations can limit. As the site of imaginative play, rest and snacks the children can be adventurers, rest on pillows with books and it is our favourite place for late afternoon tea.
