The crops in our vegetable boxes are in high rotation, with spring, summer and winter crops, planted as the seasons demand. The children work with the staff to learn about these natural cycles of planting, nurturing and growth and reap the rewards upon harvest. They learn many things as they observe the crops change in size, colour and shape and grow through their care: watered and weeded under sunshine with love. Our Spring crops bring the greatest bounty in early summer: tomatoes, lettuce, spinach, rainbow chard, corn, basil and parsley. The children have the pleasure of eating these served up in delicious meals prepared by Sandra.
Through these daily experiences the children come to know, through direct engagement and care about the cycles and seasons of the earth and the bounty which mother nature provides.
